The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
