Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
