When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown." 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 And we have brought unto thee the truth, and verily we say sooth. 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them – and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 And guard against (the punishment of) Allah and do not put me to shame. 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: these are my daughters, if act ye must. 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 And thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at the time of sunrise, 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
