The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
