He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
