The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
