The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
