The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
