He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
