The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And rejects the best, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
