He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
