The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 And as for him whose record shall be placed in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
