He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
