He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he feareth 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
