The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
