Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
