He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
