The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
