He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grass, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
