The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
