He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
