He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
