The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 Evil was the end of the harmdoers, because they belied the verses of Allah and mocked at them. 10
