The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 Will pray for death, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
