The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
