The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
