The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
