He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
