The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 The night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
