The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
