The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
