He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
