Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
