The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
