(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
