S (Saad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! 1 nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. 2 How many ancient generations did We destroy? (On facing Our torment) they cried out for help, but it was too late for them to escape. 3 And they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say: This is an enchanter, a liar. 4 Maketh he the gods One Allah? Lo! that is an astounding thing. 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 We have not heard of this in later religion. This is naught but an invention. 7 "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! 8 Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? 9 Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! 10 They are only a small band among the defeated confederate tribes. 11 The people of Noah, Ad and the dominating Pharaoh had rejected Our revelations. 12 and so did Thamud and the people of Lot and the people of Aykah. These were all leagued together. 13 Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, 14
