The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruits numberless, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
