He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
