The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
