Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
