[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
