By no means! By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Till death overtook us. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
