The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not: 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 What, have they not considered within themselves? God created not the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, save with the truth and a stated term; yet most men disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
