The Column (Al-Suff)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
All that is in the heavens and the earth magnifies God; He is the All-mighty; the All-wise. 1 O YOU who have attained to faith! Why do you say one thing and do another? 2 It is most hateful in the sight of God if you say something and do not practice it. 3 Indeed Allah likes those who fight in His cause, positioned in rows, as if they were an edifice fortified. 4 And (remember) when Moses said unto his people: O my people! Why persecute ye me, when ye well know that I am Allah's messenger unto you? So when they went astray Allah sent their hearts astray. And Allah guideth not the evil-living folk. 5 And when Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One. Yet when he hath come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic. 6 And who does greater evil than he who forges against God falsehood, when he is being called unto surrender? And God guides never the people of the evildoers. 7 They intend to put out the Light of Allah (i.e. the religion of Islam, this Quran, and Prophet Muhammad SAW) with their mouths. But Allah will complete His Light even though the disbelievers hate (it). 8 It is He who sent His Apostle with the guidance and the true way to raise it above all faiths, however the idolaters may dislike it. 9
