The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In gardens and springs. 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
