The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains are made to pass away, 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 And when the Records of Account are laid bare. 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 by the night when it approaches 17 and brightening morning, 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 nor is it a word of an accursed Satan. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
