The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
