Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 behold, We have made it an Arabic Koran; haply you will understand; 3 And indeed it is, in the Mother of the Book with Us, exalted and full of wisdom. 4 So shall We divert the advice away from you, because you are a nation that exceeds the limits? 5 And how many a prophet We sent among the ancients. 6 but whenever a prophet came to them, they mocked him, 7 We destroyed the strongest among them in power. The stories of the ancient people have already been mentioned. 8 If thou askest them, 'Who created the heavens and earth?' they will say, 'The All-mighty, the All-knowing created them.' 9 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 10 And Who sendeth down from the heaven water in measure; then We quicken a dead land therewith: even so ye shall be brought forth. 11 It is He who has created everything in pairs and the ships and cattle for you to ride, 12 in order that you might gain mastery over them, and that, whenever you have mastered them, you might remember your Sustainer's blessings and say: "Limitless in His glory is He who has made [all] this subservient to our use - since [but for Him,] we would not have been able to attain to it. 13 And verily unto our Lord we are to return. 14 Yet they have made some of His servants a part of Him. Indeed man is most evidently thankless. 15
