Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Clear Book 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
