The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
